Wednesday, January 16, 2002Airport Ends Year With a 5% Increase in PassengersSIOUX CITY, IA - Barbara Sloniker, Director of Airport Marketing for the Sioux Gateway Airport/Col. Bud Day Field, announced today that the Airport ended 2001 with a 5% increase in total passengers compared to 2000. The overall increase comes in spite of decreases in passenger traffic since the terrorist attacks in September. The Airport recorded a 23% decrease in passenger traffic for December, 2001 as compared to December of 2000. “While passenger traffic is coming back, it is returning at a slower rate then we had hoped,” said Sloniker. “Obviously, the terrorist attacks of September 11th and the slowdown in the economy have impacted the entire air travel industry.” “I think we really see the importance of the first eight months of the year where we were 24% ahead of 2000,” said Glenn S. Januska, Airport Director. “The positive news is we showed a good healthy increase overall for the year. We hope to be able to build upon that for 2002, although a lot of it continues to be economy driven.” |
