Airport Passengers Increase 1% in April, Year to Date 6% - Airport Reports Lowest Lesiure Fares

SIOUX CITY, IA - Barbara Sloniker, Director of Airport Marketing for the Sioux Gateway Airport announced today a 1% increase in total passengers for April compared to April of 2000.  Overall, the Airport has seen a year to date increase of 6%.

“I think our passenger increase is particularly significant since some neighboring airport passenger totals were down in April and also year to date,” said Glenn S. Januska, Airport Director.  “With regional jet service beginning June 1st, the summer is looking to be very busy.” The Airport also saw an 80% increase in total air freight for the month of April.

Additionally, the Airport announced that it had the lowest average leisure fares in the State of Iowa for the past three weeks.  The Iowa Department of Transportation’s Office of Aviation supplies the average fare report each week. The report compares the business and leisure fares at the 10 commercial service airports in Iowa and the surrounding airports outside the State.
