Airport Passengers Increase 3% in May

Airport Operations Increase 4%

SIOUX CITY, IA – Glenn Januska, Director, Sioux Gateway Airport/Col. Bud Day Field announced today a 3% increase in total passengers for May compared to May of 2003. The increase makes May the third consecutive month of increased passengers, the first time that has happened since the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001.  “We continue to be pleased by the increased passenger numbers, and are hopeful that despite the higher fuel costs these increases will continue as we move into the traditionally busy summer travel season,” said Januska.

Airport operations also increased 4% in May, helping to record a year-to-date operational increase of 10%.  These increases are attributed to more military flying as the conversion from the F-16s to the KC-135s nears completion.
