AIRPORT RECEIVES $1,009,498 DOT GRANT

SIOUX CITY, IA – Glenn Januska, Director of the Sioux Gateway Airport/Col. Bud Day Field, announced today the receipt of a $1,009,498 United States Department of Transportation Grant for the first phase of the north aircraft parking ramp rehabilitation.  “We undertook a pavement maintenance study in 2003 that analyzed and documented each pavement area on the Airport.  That study helped us establish a comprehensive pavement maintenance and rehabilitation plan,” said Glenn Januska, Airport Director.  “This rehabilitation project is an outgrowth of that plan, which helps us to maximize the pavement life, minimize reconstruction costs, while ensuring the safety of the aircraft that taxi over and across the parking ramp.”

The grant additionally provides 95% reimbursement for the development of a height limitation map currently under development.  “The map is a tool we will be able to use, along with planners and developers, to ensure there is protection for the approach and transitional areas aircraft use arriving at and departing from the Airport,” said Januska.  “While the map will not replace FAA airspace review and approval, it will help in assessing height impacts of development around the Airport, particularly as we see more development directly north and to the south.”
