Airport Receives $219,079 in Airport Security Cost Reimbursement

SIOUX CITY, IA - Glenn Januska, Director of the Sioux Gateway Airport announced today that the Sioux Gateway Airport/Col. Bud Day Field will receive $219,079 in reimbursement for security costs associated with the September 11th attacks.  The reimbursement is part of a $175 million dollar Department of Defense appropriations bill airport security reimbursement program.  The funds were aimed at compensating airports for a portion of direct costs associated with new, additional or revised requirements imposed by the Federal Aviation Administration or Transportation Security Administration on or after September 11, 2001.

Sioux Gateway Airport submitted an Application for Federal Assistance January 11, 2002.  While the funds were established to reimburse airports for direct costs associated with additional or revised security requirements, the Airport’s Application for Federal Assistance included Airport security costs for the fiscal year ending June 30, 2001, costs for security after September 11, 2002, how the Airport has covered these costs so far, whether rates and charges have increased, all security costs incurred or which must be incurred between September 11, 2001 and September 30, 2002, and lost revenue due to the attacks.  “We’re pleased that funds were made available to reimburse our Airport and other airports for costs associated with the attacks last September,” said Glenn Januska.  “We’re now working as an industry on establishing a long-term funding solution for ongoing airport security costs so they don’t get passed onto local taxpayers.”
