Friday, November 16, 2001Airport Receives FAA Parking WaiverShort Term Lot to Open Monday SIOUX CITY, IA - Glenn S. Januska, A.A.E., Sioux Gateway Airport Director announced today approval by the Federal Aviation Administration of the Airport’s short-term parking lot waiver. The Airport requested a waiver October 24th with the FAA notifying the Airport of its approval earlier this week. The Airport submitted a plan for alternative measures the Airport believed provided the same level of security as the 300 restriction. The most visible change with the waiver will be a required vehicle search prior to vehicles entering the short-term lot. “We’re happy that the FAA concurred with us and the measures we proposed to open the short term lot back up again,” said Januska. “While the vehicle checks need to be conducted, opening the lot up provides a greater level of customer service than what we have had with the lot closed. Passengers are still permitted to be dropped off in front of the terminal and can use the long-term lot if they choose.” The Airport has additionally been working with the rental car agencies at the Airport to have rental cars returned in the short-term lot. “People don’t realize that most of the rental car ‘ready’ lot was also closed with the 300 foot restriction,” said Mr. Januska. “Allowing rental car vehicles to be dropped off in the short-term lot will make it easier and more convenient for car rental customers.” |
