Wednesday, March 06, 2002American Connection to Discontinue Sioux City Service April 1stSIOUX CITY, IA - Glenn Januska, Director of the Sioux Gateway Airport announced today the discontinuance of service by American Connection effective April 1st. “Chautauqua Airlines, operating first as Trans World Express and then as American Connection has been providing good service to our community, and we’re obviously disappointed that service is going to be discontinued,” said Mr. Januska. “Prior to September 11th, Chautauqua was reporting an 88% increase in passengers over the same period in 2000.” American Airlines has a scope clause in their pilot’s contract that limits how many available seats can be flown on their regional partners. After September 11th, with American reducing their mainline service and placing more regional aircraft in their mainline markets, that reduced the number of seats which could be flown in communities like Sioux City. Passengers who have booked travel on American Connection/American Airlines after April 1st should call the airline or their travel agent from whom they purchased their ticket. |
